Fifty years after its debut, Carhartt WIP’s OG Active Jacket remains a cultural icon. This anniversary brings a special edition that honors five decades of durability, style, and legacy.
50 Years of History and Reinvention
Originally conceived in 1975, the Active Jacket was born in the U.S. as a tougher version of the brand’s classic zip-up hoodie, designed to provide both warmth and resilience. First crafted in denim and later in canvas, the piece quickly became a staple, solidifying its status as one of Carhartt’s signature garments. In 1997, the brand introduced its reinterpretation — the OG Active Jacket — recognizable by its boxy silhouette, triple stitching, and gold hardware, a declaration of authenticity that defined an era.
Today, Carhartt WIP celebrates the model’s 50th anniversary with a capsule that encapsulates its legacy in four exclusive editions: two made from Dearborn canvas, one in denim, and another in leather. Each version is fully reversible and features a commemorative anniversary label.
This celebration not only revisits the jacket’s evolution but also that of Carhartt WIP itself: a brand rooted in workwear that has grown into a universal language shared by musicians, skaters, filmmakers, and creatives worldwide. Half a century later, the Active Jacket remains a symbol of authenticity, adaptability, and cultural endurance.
